SOCIETY AND LIFESTYLES: TOWARDS ENHANCING SOCIAL HARMONISATION THROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF SUBCULTURAL COMMUNITIES (SAL)

Programme: EU FP6
Contract No: STREP-CIT5-2006-029013
WWW: http://sal.vdu.lt

Objectives:

  • The strategic objectives of the SAL project are a) to assess the degree of subgroup differentiation in the post-communist societies, b) to study how the differentiation process is proceeding, c) to investigate the degree to which the subgroup structures and processes vary in several post-communist societies, d) to compare both the subgroup structure and the differentiation processes in the post-communist societies to those observed in Western Europe.<.li>
  • The project aims to extend knowledge about values and religions in Europe by investigating communities representing various values and religious beliefs in Eastern European countries; to enhance the integration of communities with different values and religions into the life of the society-at-large based on harmonious coexistence that the EU aims to achieve.
  • The project aims to enhance tolerance and facilitate joint efforts between diverse social groups with regard to different factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, religion and cultural preferences. Further, it expects to initiate discussions about the related social problems. Mutual understanding will facilitate the integration of the new EU member states into the social and cultural sphere of the ‘core’ EU while simultaneously preserving their authenticity.
