About Ukrainian Scientific Center

Ukrainian Scientific Center in Lithuania: A Bastion of Science and Hope
In response to Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Lithuania became a sanctuary for approximately 74,000 Ukrainian refugees, including scientists, university lecturers, school teachers, and students. These individuals are not merely refugees; they are the creators of Ukraine’s future. Halting their scientific and educational activities would have been an irreparable loss to the country. In this context, the Ukrainian Scientific Center (USC), established by MSI in Lithuania, emerged as a response to this crisis.

Mission and Goals of the USC
The USC is committed to supporting and developing the scientific potential of Ukrainian refugees, providing them with opportunities for continued scientific activities, knowledge exchange, and integration into the international scientific community. The main directions of the center’s activities include:

Development of Scientific Capabilities:
Organizing mentoring programs, scientific seminars, and conferences to stimulate professional growth.
Specialized programs for students and young researchers focused on their career development.

International Collaboration:
Establishing partnerships with scientific institutions in Lithuania and abroad to foster international scientific initiatives.
Developing joint scientific projects, exchanging researchers, and attracting international grants.

Cultural Exchange and Integration:
Organizing cultural events to promote Ukrainian culture and facilitate mutual understanding.
Language exchange programs to encourage cultural diversity.

Psychological Support:
Providing psychological assistance and social adaptation services to help refugees cope with the traumas of war.

The Ukrainian Scientific Center (USC) is a significant non-governmental research division, established within the framework of the Lithuanian Scientific Society Institute (MSI). This center was created by the Ukrainian group of scientists from LSS as a primary unit for research activities and academic development.
USC serves as a strategic bridge between Ukrainian scientists and the international scientific community. The center focuses on several key areas:

Support for Scientific Research: USC provides essential resources and a platform for conducting a wide range of scientific research, from fundamental to applied studies.

Organization of Scientific Events: The center regularly conducts conferences, seminars, and workshops for knowledge and experience exchange among scientists from different countries.

International Cooperation: USC actively facilitates the establishment of partnerships with international scientific institutions for collaborative research projects.

Enhancement of Qualifications and Skill Development: The organization of courses, training, and masterclasses for enhancing scientific-pedagogical and professional qualifications. The programs are aimed at familiarizing participants with European educational standards and cultural values.

Integration and Cultural Exchange: Language courses and cultural events to assist the integration of Ukrainian scientists into Lithuanian and international society.

Support and Mentorship Network: Establishing a network of experienced scientists for supporting and consulting young researchers.

USC plays a key role in preserving and developing Ukraine’s scientific potential, creating new opportunities for research, innovation, and scientific collaboration on an international level. The center has become an important resource for Ukrainian scientists who seek to continue their activities and development under challenging modern conditions.

USC not only fosters academic development but also supports the psychological and social well-being of its members, providing a platform for experience sharing, cultural practices, and community strengthening. The center offers a unique environment where scientists can freely exchange ideas, develop new projects, and collaborate with colleagues worldwide. USC is instrumental in preparing Ukrainian scientists to contribute to Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction and their further integration into the European scientific community.
