“Environmental and Legal Aspects of the Russian Explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant”

VSI Mokslininkų Sajungos Institutas in partnership with Mokslininkų Lietuvos Sajunga (Group Ukrainian) invites you to take part in the round table “Environmental and Legal Aspects of the Russian Explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant”. The event is aimed at scientists and educators.

When?
June 23, 2023, 18.00.  Duration – 2 hours.

Where?
Meeting in a mixed format: face-to-face at J. Basanavičiaus St. 6, LT-01118, Vilnius, and online on the Zoom platform. Please note that during the event, everyone will have the opportunity to speak, so it is advisable to have a microphone and a camera when participating online.

Who are we inviting?
All people interested in the topic both in Ukraine and Lithuania, and especially those who work in the scientific and educational fields.

What will we talk about?

  • Consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant for the fishing industry of Ukraine.
  • General assessment of the epizootic situation in the flooded areas of the lower reaches of the Dnieper River.
  • Legal consequences of blowing up a dam: ecocide, a crime against humanity or a war crime?
  • Historical Parallels and Perspectives for Justice.

During the event, there will be speeches by invited speakers, as well as thematic discussions, during which you will be able to share your thoughts and experiences.

  • Doctor of Biological Sciences, professor, Head of the Laboratory, Ichthyopathology, Institute of Fisheries, National Academy of Agrarian Sciences, Ukraine;
  • Center for Nature Research, Laboratory of Ecotoxicology, MSCA4Ukraine postdoctoral fellow, Lithuania.

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Law, Attorney-at-Law, Associate Professor, Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University of Ukraine (Kharkiv), Ukraine;
  • Vilnius university Scholarship Holder Program MSCA4 Ukraine, Lithuania.
  • 7 years of academic and teaching experience, 12 years of legal experience in investigation and courts, experience in the public sector: Office of the President and Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania (“Kurk Lietuvai” program, 2022-2023)
